John Fox Watson is believed to be the only Scotsman to play for Real Madrid’s men’s team. The Hamilton-born defender made one appearance for the Spanish giants during the 1948-49 season before moving to Crystal Palace. He was never capped by Scotland.

The weekend’s ties started with a thriller in Ayrshire and finished at Ibrox with a win for Rangers. Stenhousemuir caused the upset of the weekend with their win over Motherwell. Hearts were level with Inverness going into the 83rd minute before scoring four goals to beat the Championship side 6-2. Dundee United hit the woodwork five times in their 4-0 defeat against Celtic.

In the Lowland League East, Berwick Rangers picked up their first win of the season. A 91st-minute winner gave them a 3-2 win at home to University of Stirling. Linlithgow Rose won 2-0 away to Musselburgh Athletic.
In the West, Largs Thistle made it four wins from four by beating previously undefeated Auchinleck Talbot 3-0. Dalbeattie Star scored their first league goal of the season in a 5-1 home defeat to Celtic B. Albion Rovers got their first league win of the season with a 2-0 home win over Caledonian Braves. ⚽ Robbie Ure made his Sevilla debut on Saturday. The striker came on as a second-half substitute in his new club’s La Liga opening game against Rayo Vallecano. He came on at 1-0 down and won an added-time penalty to help turn the game around for a 2-1 win.
⚽ Midfielder Andy Irving scored again for Sparta Prague yesterday. The 26-year-old also registered an assist in their 4-1 win over Teplice.
