SCOTTISH COMMUNITIES LEAGUE CUP WINNERS 2012 - KILMARNOCK
It is Kilmarnock’s only League Cup trophy to date, and the last time they reached the final.
The Rugby Park club faced Celtic at Hampden on March 18, 2012, in front of more than 49,000 fans. Killie had beaten Ayrshire rivals Ayr United in the semi-finals 1-0 and won the final by the same score line thanks to a goal by substitute Dieter Van Tornhout.
This final was the last time Celtic lost in a League Cup Final. Whatever happened to that Kilmarnock squad?
1️⃣ CAMMY BELL
The Man of the Match in the final. After winning the cup with Killie, Bell joined Rangers the following year. He went on to join Dundee, then had spells at Hibernian, Partick Thistle, St Johnstone, and Falkirk. He later joined Queen’s Park in Scottish League Two, where he finished his career.
Cammy is now a pundit and can be heard on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard and the BBC.
4️⃣ JAMES FOWLER
The cup final skipper, Fowler, stayed at Kilmarnock until 2014. Before he left, he had a loan spell at Cowdenbeath before he joined Queen of the South as player-coach.
He would go on to manage Queen’s before becoming assistant manager to Jack Ross at St Mirren and then Sunderland. He returned to Killie as Head of Operations at Kilmarnock, and is now Head of Academy Scouting and Recruitment at Rangers.
