This week, a quick look at the data to find out which league is the most competitive as we hit the middle of March.
Safe travels to all those heading to a game this weekend.
THE DATA
If you listen to a podcast or a pundit, there is an occasional reference to the most competitive league in Scotland.
But as of the 14th of March, what really is the most competitive league in Scotland?
The data includes the top six tiers in Scotland as well as SWPL 1.
THE CAVEATS
As you would expect, there are several leagues where there are variances in the number of games played.
The biggest discrepancy is the Midlands League Premier League, where second-place Dundee North End have five games in hand on the leaders and are just a point behind.
In the South of Scotland League, bottom-side St Cuthbert Wanderers have played up to six games more than others in the table.
But, hey, this is just a bit of fun, so let’s not get bogged down too much with that.
THE TITLE RACES
The best title race is in the North of Scotland Premier League. The top three are all tied on points. In fact, just two points separate the top six.
In the SPFL, based on points, League One is the most competitive. Leaders Inverness Caledonian Thistle have a game in hand.
The least competitive is the North Caledonian League. When the champions were already crowned in February and have won 19 games from 19, then it is hardly any surprise. Fingers crossed, Invergordon get into the Highland League next season.
